Premixed feed plays an important role in supplementing nutrition, promoting animal growth, preventing and treating diseases, and improving the quality of animal products. When designing and producing premixed feed, the following points should be noted:
1.Formula
The formula is the core of production technology. A good premix formula is designed by professional animal nutrition experts based on the nutritional needs of animals at different growth and production stages. It follows the principle of "supplement what is lacking, economically reasonable, low-value and high-efficiency," while also considering environmental factors and processing techniques. It ensures a proper ratio of active ingredients to diluents, the balance among various trace elements, and the appropriate ratio between active ingredients. The formula is not fixed but should be adjusted based on market feedback, regional conditions, seasonal changes, and technological innovations.
2.Raw Materials
The basic requirement for high-quality raw materials is high purity, free from toxic and harmful substances. The content of active ingredients should be measured to determine the correct proportion. The raw materials for trace element compounds should have high biological activity, stable physical properties, and minimal toxic substances. The quality and form of some additives can influence other additives. When choosing trace element raw materials, factors such as content, particle size, crystallization water, and the presence of toxic substances should be considered. For drug additives, safety is also a concern.
3.Carriers and Dilutants
A carrier is a particle that supports or adsorbs trace active ingredients, and it is a non-active substance in the premix. The carrier should have a particle size of 0.17–0.59 mm, a moisture content of 8%–10%, and a pH value around 7. The density of the carrier in compound premix should be the average density of the microelement components and should not damage the activity of the active ingredients it carries. Common carriers include wheat bran, corn, shell powder, rice bran, zeolite powder, and salt.
4.Dilutants reduce the concentration of active substances in the premix and separate the trace particles from each other. They help reduce reactions between active components and stabilize them. The dilutant should have a moisture content below 10%, a particle size between 0.05–0.6 mm, a pH between 5.5–7.7, be moisture-resistant, anti-caking, non-static, smooth, and have good flowability and stability. Additionally, the dilutant must be edible for animals and non-harmful to them.
5.Raw Material Pre-treatment
The activity of vitamins can be reduced by factors such as oxygen, heat, light, moisture, and metal ions. Therefore, vitamin additives must undergo special pre-treatment to ensure their stability and activity. Emulsification technology can reduce their particle size, and coating technology can turn them into microcapsules. The treated particles have excellent antioxidant properties, good machine compatibility, and excellent mixing ability. For trace element additives, common pre-treatment technologies include drying, adding anti-caking agents, coating, fine particle processing, and pre-grinding. These methods often use common coating technologies. For example, Fantast Bio Tech's "Zinc Language - Slow-release Micro-porous Zinc Oxide" treatment technology achieves excellent results.
6.Uniform Mixing
Poor uniformity in premix means that the actual intake by animals may not match the prescribed amounts, leading to poor additive effects and feeding outcomes. Additionally, the safety margins between safe and toxic doses for some trace elements are very small, and poor uniformity compromises the safety of the final product. The uniformity index is expressed by the coefficient of variation, which should be less than 7%.
The design and production process of premixed feed should keep these points in mind to avoid any negative effects on animal growth. It is important to choose the appropriate premixed feed according to actual requirements. Fantast Bio Tech's trace element premixes are an excellent choice for supplementing animals with vitamins, amino acids, and more.
